i’m learning german and let me tell you these dialects that people speak are going to kill me i’m not entirely convinced anyone really speaks Hoch Deutsch

tf is hoch deutsch though i thought that just meant high german aka proper german with no slang??? when i was in austria they told us that if someone spoke to us in german slang we should ask them to speak hoch deutsch so we would understand better??
