dance fics……..[vibrates violently] I LOVE DANCE FICS OH MY GOD I LOVE THEM MY DREAM IS TO WRITE ONE anyway this ask is for the meme not for me to scream about dance fics um
anyway this is like. the same idea i had for my larry dance au if it ever comes to life. harry and louis meet when they’re younger in ballet class, and they’re fast friends–louis is in an older class because he’s older and started earlier, and harry is pigeon-toed and has back problems and his mom joined him in ballet in order to stave off the back problems he may have, and he’s clumsy and he can’t quite get the dance steps right but everyone can see that he’s the only one who actually enjoys dancing and gets lost in the music
and louis is patient and teaches him how to point properly, to keep his toes turned out, chin up, back straight, arms relaxed, and plié and up, plié and up, now in second position
anyway it doesn’t last long; louis’ mom divorces louis’ dad and they move away, and harry doesn’t see louis again–
until when he’s sixteen, and louis is eighteen, and they both join the same dance camp. louis is on his way becoming a premier danseur, and harry just joined because he’d been having doubts about dancing, and he thought he’d try it one more time before deciding whether or not to quit.
louis is strict, firm, incredibly straight-laced as a ballerina, everything structured and whatnot, which is a problem because they joined a contemporary dance camp.
harry is in the same class as lottie, and louis has to choreograph a contemporary piece for that class, and it’s a mess, louis is strict and has crises regarding his ability because i can’t even choreograph a fucking contemporary piece and he’s not having fun; he wants to do ballet not–this unstructured imitation for ballet
but as he choreographs for harry and louis, he sees harry, despite not being the best or the most skilled or the most fluid, even if his pas de bourree could use some work and he has a bit of trouble at the bar, he actually has fun, especially when it comes to the freedom allotted to him by contemporary dancing. he loses himself to the music and he has heart, something louis realizes that a lot of dancers–including himself–lack.
harry and lottie perform louis’ contemporary piece and it’s perfect, of course, it’s louis tomlinson, and harry changed louis’ life, reminded him that he actually loved to dance. louis has a change of heart.
fast forward a few more years, and louis is now majoring in dance in uni and roommates with zayn, an english major. zayn decides he wants to move out and live with his significant other, but of course he’s not going to leave louis in the dust, he knows someone who needs a place and he’s a great guy, tommo, really sweet and fun and–
in walks harry, louis’ new roommate.
harry, it turns out, gave up dance entirely–all the people in ballet said he wouldn’t amount to much because he was too clumsy, he was too lanky, he grew too tall, he’s too pigeon-toed, and now he’s just double-majoring in business and english. louis is shocked–how could the person who made him love dance, who changed his mindset and his outlook on life just…give up on it? so he then decides that his goal is to make harry love to dance again. he invites harry to rehearsals and recitals, asks harry’s opinion for pieces even though harry keeps saying i dont dance anymore, lou. louis has a huge final at the end of the semester–he has to choreograph something and he wants it to be a partner piece and he wants it to be with harry, because harry, above everything, has heart.
anyway they just fall in love–it’s nothing grand, nothing romantic, nothing tragic. louis aces his final, and harry dances with him, and everyone in uni is talking about louis’ piece even years later. louis gets an offer to dance at the big ballet companies, and even harry gets an offer to be a dancer in musicals, much to his surprise, and and after a while he accepts.
they get married in a few years, and in their wedding, they dance that contemporary piece louis choreographed all those years ago–the piece that brought them together.
