The popular 2000s song ‘DONTTRUSTME’ by 3OH!3 is most famously known for it’s iconic lyric “tell your boyfriend if he’s got beef that i’m a vegetarian and i ain’t fucking scared of him” however, another significant lyric from the song is “black dress with the tights underneath, I got the breath of the last cigarette on my teeth and she’s an actress but she ain’t got no need” In the song ‘kiwi’ off of harry styles’ debut self titled album, we see very similar lyrics such as: “In a black dress, she’s such an actress” and “She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes” fromthese similarities, as well as the similar use of word play in the two songs we can come to the conclusion that ‘kiwi’ by harry styles is actually a direct allusion to ‘DONTTRUSTME’. This means it’s safe to assume the girl in kiwi and the girl in DONTTRUSTME are in fact the same person. However, ‘Kiwi’ is not the only song on ‘harry styles’ that references DONTTRUSTME. For example, In ‘Carolina’, harry says that “she’s got a family in carolina” and in DONTTRUSTME the lyric is “she’s got money from her parents in a trust fund back east” The state of carolina is on the east coast of the united states, so both songs reference a girl with a family that lives in the east. ‘carolina’ and ‘DONTTRUSTME’ also both mention a girl who often goes to parties and has a high alcohol tolerance. Based on these facts, i believe it’s safe to conclude that the album ‘harry styles’ by harry styles is in fact simply based on the hit song ‘DONTTRUSTME’ by 3OH!3
