no flex but harry was genuinely so good in dunkirk
the frantic fight for survival was a constant theme and he got it down pat
even in alex’s first appearance he gave us an inkling of what his character was like from facial expression alone
but this scene was the bread and butter, the toast and jam: he manages to capture a boy who, despite all appearances, is scared to death of war and what it entails—who is willing to do anything to survive, desperate
look at the red-rimmed eyes and the way they jolt, the jaw twitch—minuscule details that bring the defeat and vulnerability he’s feeling together
or what about the disbelief and hopefulness when he realised some people—many people—were willing to look him in the eyes
we’ve gotta remember that aside from icarly this was his first acting experience. and it was for a christopher nolan blockbuster. hello talent. (gif credit: x, x, x, x, x)
